Founded in 1909, the United Family Services (UFS) has evolved with the needs of the local community. Today, the organization is devoted to improving the quality of life of thousands of families in the Charlotte area to restore basic levels of security, self-sufficiency, and belonging through quality services such as:

  • 30-Day Emergency Shelter, Food, and Clothing at the Shelter for Battered Women

Facts and Figures: 

  • 1 of every 4 women in our community will be the victims of domestic violence.
  • 86% of domestic violence incidents go unreported.
  • In 2011, the UFS Victim Services staff and volunteers worked with more than 8,000 victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, homicide, child maltreatment, and other felony crimes in the four (4) counties they serve.
  • In December 2012, the Clyde & Ethel Domestic Violence Shelter for Women and Children should be in operation thanks to the many people who have supported events such as the Charlotte Run for Peace and Charlotte Rock for Peace.
